Battle of

Arcadiopolis took place in 1194 during the inv asion of the Bulgarian lands of Byzantium. The battle ended in to tal defeat of the Byzantine army and was one of the major success es of the Tsar of Bulgaria Asen I. The crisis which struck at the death of the Byzantine emperor Manuel I Comnenus (1180) has increased the fiscal pressure of the Bulgarian population, subordinated to the Byzantine Empire for two centuries. At the end of the year 1186 broke antybizantyjskie uprising led by brothers Peter and Theodora-wealthy family from the Asan Cumans.
